Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have traps available to check out?
No, we do not loan out traps.

Does the Edgewood Animal Welfare Facility adopt out animals?
Yes, we adopt out both cats and dogs at our shelter.

Does the Mobile Spay/Neuter clinic still come to Edgewood?
Not at this time, but it is in the works. Friends of the Estancia Valley (FEVA) can also assist with spay/neuter costs at 505-281-3475. They are all volunteers, so please leave a message and a volunteer will call you back.

I can no longer care for my dog/cat. How do I surrender my dog/cat?
Every circumstance is different. Please call the Animal Shelter at (505) 926-9013 so we can assist with rehoming options and/or place you on the Surrender Waitlist. Note: We can ONLY take owner surrenders from the incorporated Town of Edgewood limits. Proof of residency required. A great rehoming option is Rehome by Adopt-a-Pet.com.

I live in Edgewood. Do I need to license my cat/dog?
It depends on your actual address. Our facility only services the incorporated portion of Edgewood, which resides solely in Santa Fe County. If you are unsure which jurisdiction you fall under, contact our office at 505-926-9013.

What do I do if the animal I adopted gets sick?
Contact us immediately. If the animal has a preexisting sickness or ailment from our shelter, we can most often offer financial assistance for treatment and medication. You will also have the option of returning or exchanging the animal.

What is the cost of licensing my pet?
You may purchase a 1-year or 3-year license depending on the duration of the animal’s rabies vaccination.

  • Spayed/Neutered (proof required): $3.00 / 1 year, $8.00 / 3 years
  • Intact: $20.00 / 1 year, $54.00 / 3 years

A copy of your pet’s current rabies vaccination must be presented to purchase a license.
