Flag Retirement Ceremony

Saturday, February 21 · 12:00 PM · Venus Park

This civic and educational event is one of several that Edgewood will host to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence (1776–2026). The American Legion, Post 22 of Estancia, has graciously offered to conduct the Flag Retirement Ceremony.

Residents of all ages are encouraged to attend as we respectfully retire flags. If you have a flag in need of retirement, please bring it to the event.

What is a Flag Retirement?

An American flag should be retired when its condition no longer allows for a dignified display. While the timing may not always be clear, there are unmistakable signs that a flag has fulfilled its purpose and deserves a respectful retirement. Recognizing these signs ensures the flag’s symbolic integrity is upheld.
