Abatement Property

The Town of Edgewood Abatement Property Process

  1. Identification of the nuisance property. Identified as abandoned, uninhabitable, unsafe, or in a state of disrepair.
  2. Outreach to known owners. A courtesy letter is sent to known owners.
  3. Notice to Abate is given. A “Notice To Abate” sign is posted on the property. A second letter conveys that the owner has 10 days to clean the property.
  4. Notice of Hearing. Posted on the property and sent in a letter.
  5. Abatement Hearing scheduled. Proper notice sent to known owners.
  6. Case presented to the Hearing Examiner. An Order to Abate may be issued.
  7. Nuisance property is cleaned. Posting and notice are given to known owners. Physical removal of structures and/or debris takes place.

What is “nuisance abatement property”?

Property that has been abandoned, is uninhabitable, unsafe, or in a state of disrepair — constituting a nuisance under the Town’s Abatement Ordinance.
